WCW was founded in 1988 and quickly became popular by utilizing established wrestling stars of the '80s. In the '90s, WCW hit the mainstream by shifting to reality-based storylines featuring former WWF talent. World Championship Wrestling was also known for its cruiserweight division, which featured acrobatic and lucha-libre styles of wrestling.
